Mexico’s Highway 2 will take you from Tijuana to Tecate and on to Mexicali. The toll road is expensive, about $15 when all is said and done, but the free road is curvy and filled with potholes the size of the Grand Canyon.

So take the the toll road, drive and enjoy. Pictures, mostly of Tecate ’cause I ran out of space on my digital camera by the time we got to Mexicali, are below.

Harris fire nears Tecate

October 22, 2007

For an update on this post, click here.

I just heard a report that the Tecate border crossing has been closed due to the still out-of-control Harris fire burning in the Potrero area.

I’m worried that all the attention will be on the Witch fire burning in North County and Ramona — will Mexico be forgotten? The Border Angels are collecting donations for all evacuees:

COMMUNITY ADVISORY: PLEASE HELP

M.A.P.A. , Border Angels, Chicano Park, AFSC, Gente Unida, House of
Mexico and more join forces to collect blankets, food, water, canned
goods, clothes, tents, sleeping bags etc for all those suffering because
of the terrible fires on both sides of the border. Tecate, East County
San Diego, North County, San Ysidro, South Coutny, the canyon areas….
all need your help. Please bring donations to CHICANO PARK. (5 Freeway,
Cesar Chavez Exit) look for kiosk under the Coronado bridge in the heart
of Chicano Park.

ABC archive

I’ve been blognoring (ignoring my blog) lately, and for that, I am sorry. Above is a picture of the project I was talking about in my last post, the artist archive built by my neighbors Lucia Sanroman and Giacomo Castagnola with lots of help from Tijuana artist Tania Candiani and a few others whom I saw slaving away late into the night.

I had a chance to check out the archive at Entijuanarte two weeks ago and the opening of PERI_scope last week. Aside from being awesome looking, it’s an extremely helpful and much needed archive and website featuring Baja California artists and architects.

Full credit for the project and contact info is below:

Tijuana art

October 4, 2007

The musical cube
Entijuanarte festival is this weekend. My neighbors — the cute and creative married couple, MCASD curator Lucia Sanroman and architect/designer Giacomo Castagnola — are making a hybrid vehicle/website contraption that you’re just going to have to see to understand. And one of my other neighbors, Camilo Ontiveros, will be showing his musical site-specific cube project, too. The festival is kind of like Art Walk, but with less landscape paintings. ;-)

UPDATE:  I went and it was wonderful.  I have pictures. I’m going to post them soon, I swear.

“Arrrr” by Kinsee Morlan

Life changes so suddenly when you fall in love, especially when you fall in love with someone who has a kid. My current BF is actually the third gentleman I’ve dated with baggage in the shape of a cute little dimpled thing with energy that just won’t quit. My sister, too, is dating a guy with a few rugrats of his own. It’s a sign of the times — marriages are now temporary, children are still forever.
