Holiday shopping in TJ

The whole shop-local-think-global trend is rad, especially when you rightfully consider Tijuana “local” even if you live in San Diego.  I think my friend Derrik Chinn summed up shopping in Tijuana best when he said in an email, “Just think of all the treasures. Toy accordions made out of neon plastic. Cruz Azul soccer balls. Made-to-order friendship bracelets stitched with any obscenity of your choosing. Those sweet polyester all-purpose shopping bags screenprinted really shakily with Frida’s face. Our Lady of Guadalupe anythings and everythings. Tequila. Better yet, mezcal.”

And if cheap-but-cutely-kitschy things aren’t what you’re looking for, stop by the Artsty Krafters bazaar at Organic Life Deli Dec. 13-14.   A map to the place is here.
